showcases the key artworks created during my transition to new environments, highlighting shifts in medium and perspective influenced by change.
Growing up as a curious girl in a liberal family in Iran, I was always intrigued by lifestyles in different countries. Living in a society that imposed strict limitations on women, I yearned to experience life beyond these boundaries. This curiosity and desire for freedom led me to immigrate to Canada, even though it meant starting from scratch in a new land with no connections in my field and limited information at my disposal. Finding my place and understanding my new environment took years of exploration and self-discovery.
My early works in Canada continued the themes I explored in Iran, focusing on the people around me and their relationships with their surroundings. During this period, my color palette remained dominated by earthy tones that felt familiar and satisfying. However, over time, new colors began to emerge in my work, reflecting my evolving perspective and experiences.
I merged personal experiences and emotional insights with my artistic knowledge to forge a unique language of communication. My art predominantly explores themes of humanity, female identity, the environment, and nature. Overall, I'm a happy and optimistic person, and this is reflected in my works. Even when addressing uncomfortable situations, there is always a sense of beauty present. This beauty might be expressed through lines, texture, and color. Many of my works from this period are not conventionally beautiful, but they possess a unique beauty that shines through the expressive elements.
As a woman contemplating motherhood in a new country, the prospect of starting a family while still finding my footing was daunting. Yet, I embraced the journey of motherhood, and it profoundly influenced my art.
This period of adaptation and growth is reflected in my evolving artistic expression, which continues to explore new themes and mediums inspired by my experiences. Through my art, I invite viewers to engage with the emotional depth and complexity of a life lived within and against societal limitations, and to witness the transformative power of art as a means of personal and collective expression.
